AHAs mission is to reduce death and disability from stroke, through research, education, fundraising, and advocacy.
Founded in 1954 by Australian Fellows of the Royal Society of London with the distinguished physicist Sir Mark Oliphant as founding President. It was granted a Royal Charter establishing the Academy as an independent body but with government endorsement.
European Stroke Organisation
The formation of the Asia Pacific Stroke Organisation (APSO) took place on Sunday, 6 September 2009, at 3.30pm, at the Cairns Convention Centre, Cairns, Australia, immediately preceding the combined Asia Pacific Conference Against Stroke (APCAS) with annual scientific meeting of the Stroke Society of Australasia (SSA).
