In keeping with the principal goals of the SSA, which include promoting research into stroke, the SSA calls for applications for an Overseas Travelling Fellowship, as support for a young researcher seeking research experience or study overseas. The $5,000 fellowship is to defray the costs of travel and accommodation.

The Fellowship is available to medical and non-medical members of the SSA. To be eligible, applicants must have either secured a training or research position in stroke or invitation to study or participate in research in stroke, at a recognised institution, of at least one month’s duration beginning in the 2011 calendar year.

The application should include a curriculum vitae, details of previous training and research experience, a letter of support from the applicant’s current supervisor, the names and contact details of two other referees, and a letter from the overseas institution confirming and describing the overseas program or appointment.

Applications will be considered by a Stroke Society of Australasia appointed sub-committee. The successful applicant must supply a brief report (no more than one page) on their return and will be expected to present the results of their work at the annual scientific meeting of the SSA.
