The Stroke Society of Australasia offers a number of different awards to both recognise outstanding young researchers and to provide travel awards to attend the SSA Annual Scientific Meeting.These are listed below:

New Investigator Award:

There are three awards in this category. The two awards for oral presentations are the Peter Bladin Award is sponsored by the Stroke Society of Australasia and the National Stroke Foundation Award is sponsored by the National Stroke Foundation. These awards are made to the most outstanding presentations by new investigators at each annual scientific meeting. The poster award is sponsored by the Victorian Stroke Clinical Network. Application must be made at the time of abstract submission to the annual scientific meeting.

 

Conference Support for Nurses and Allied Health:

There are two categories of travel support:

The Service Awards are for services to stroke. Applicants must be from a nursing or allied health background. Two of these awards are offered each year. 


The Scientfic Awards are based on abstracts submitted for Annual Scientific Meeting. Three of these awards are offered each year.  Application must be made at the time of abstract submission to the annual scientific meeting.

 

Victorian Stroke Clinical Network Prizes:

Rural and regional research: this $1000 prize will be awarded to the best abstract for a platform presentation on stroke research conducted in rural and regional areas. All eligible presentations will be considered for this award. There is no formal application process. Areas of research may include the following:

•    Identifying specific issues for delivering stroke care in a rural environment
•    Examining practice gaps in rural and regional areas
•    Innovative use of new technologies.

Implementation Research Award: This $1000 prize will be awarded to the best abstract for a platform presentation demonstrating how research evidence can be successfully implemented into clinical practice. This may occur at any point across the stroke care continuum including acute, (emergency department, stroke care unit), subacute (stroke rehabilitation), or ambulatory care. There is no formal application process for this award. All eligible abstracts will be included in the judging process.

Victorian Stroke Clinical Network Poster Prize:  This $500 prize will be awarded to the best poster of the conference. All poster presenters who have applied for the New Investigator Award will be eligible for this award.
