Travelling Fellowship (1 year or more)
In keeping with the principal goals of the SSA, which include promoting research into stroke, the SSA calls for applications for an Overseas Travelling Fellowship, as support for a young researcher seeking research experience overseas. The $5000 fellowship is intended to defray the costs of travel and accommodation.
The Fellowship is available to medical and non-medical members of the SSA. To be eligible, applicants must have secured a training or research position in stroke, at a recognised institution, of at least one year’s duration beginning in the 2007 calendar year.
The application should include a curriculum vitae, details of previous training and research experience, a letter of support from the applicant’s current supervisor, the names and contact details of two other referees, and a letter from the overseas institution confirming and describing the overseas appointment.
Overseas Study Scholarship (Short Term)
In keeping with the principal goals of the SSA, which include promoting the establishment of stroke units throughout Australasia, the SSA calls for applications for an Overseas Study Scholarship, as support for an SSA member seeking research or study overseas. The $5000 fellowship is intended to defray the costs of travel and accommodation.
The Scholarship is available to medical and non-medical members of the SSA. To be eligible, applicants must have secured an invitation to study or participate in research in stroke, at a recognised institution, of at least one month’s duration beginning in the 2007 calendar year.
The application should include a curriculum vitae, details of previous training and research experience, a letter of support from the applicant’s current supervisor, the names and contact details of two other referees, and a letter from the overseas institution confirming and describing the overseas program.

The deadline for receipt of applications is 31st January 2008.
Applications will be considered by a Stroke Society of Australasia appointed sub-committee. The successful applicant must supply a brief report (no more than one page) on their return, will be expected to present the results of their work at the annual scientific meeting of the SSA, and must agree to acknowledge the financial support of the Stroke Society of Australasia in any publications arising from this scholarship. If there are no suitable applications, then no scholarship will be awarded.
